THE FINNISH COSPLAY CHAMPIONS 2018

The Finnish Cosplay Champion of 2018 Elina hopes to see newer cosplayers also joining the competition to showcase what they can do. “

Seeing the beautiful costumes and performances at the championships always inspires me to work on my own projects, so give me more! Please!”

When Elina won the Finnish Cosplay Championship herself she was incredibly happy and proud, and for some reason, especially delighted to receive flowers. “Clearly I was only focused on the most important things.” She quips and adds that the reason she looks a bit amused in the photos taken during the awards ceremony, is because her hobbit-sized mum was right there by the stage, taking pictures. Both parents had come to see the competition for the first time ever and the feedback they gave was a rather simple “Well done.”

“We don’t waste time with useless flattery!” She laughs.

Elina was the last Finnish Champion to compete in both Cosplay World Masters and the Nordic Cosplay Championship, so her 2019 was very hectic. She was very happy she decided not to make a new costume for either of the finals. She took a few days for a holiday in Lisbon after the competition, and still dreams of that salmon pasta in that one particular restaurant. At NCC, she was delighted to get to admire all the Nordic/Scandinavian craftsmanship excellence and see everyone’s work up-close. And then they lash-glued the dress on her for the stage, just in case, because it was very, very windy, and she wanted to avoid any uncomfortable costume malfunctions.

Velanna is still the most technically challenging costume she has made during her 20+ years of cosplay. It may look somewhat simple on the outside, but the silhouette, structure and the materials she used required so much careful planning, engineering and crafting that Elina sometimes wonders how she ever managed to make something so meticulously.

Like a typical Finn, she sometimes feel very conceited and awkward to talk about being a Finnish champion, but she also admits that really. It is a great achievement.

Ainocos and Ssnowball renewed their group Championship in 2018.

Ainocos looks back at the operation it took to travel with the magic box used in the performance. The duo had to go and measure the train passenger car doors by hand. All that to make sure they wouldn't have to suddenly abandon the prop on the station platform on the actual traveling day. “The unexpected things you do for your hobby!" Ainocos states.

The 2018 prize was going to be a trip to J-Popcon held in Denmark but to their surprise they were offered an opportunity to be the first pair to represent Finland in the C4 (Clara Cows Cosplay Cup) competition held in the Netherlands. Ainocos says the experience was wonderful and quite a bit of fun.
